Head of QHSE

Due to our continued expansion we are pleased to be looking to fill the role of Head of QHSE. This role would suit someone with at least 10 years QHSE experience from a construction background.

Purpose of Role / Job Summary:

To lead the QHSE function across the organisation. To ensure accreditation compliance to Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality for the Organisation. To plan the Health, Safety, and Environmental strategies and develop effective procedures in line with legal and best practice. To be involved in both the pre-planning and delivery of live construction and remediation projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day to day implementation of Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety rules and policies
  • Provide advice on Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety matters
  • Responsibility for ensuring compliance with ISO accreditations
  • Reporting and monitoring of performance with respect to Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety
  • Provide and communicate up to date and relevant information to all staff
  • Prequalification documentation support
  • Safety and Environmental Accident and Near Miss investigations
  • Ensure registration and compliance to CHAS, Constructionline and Achilles
  • Plan schedule, and undertake Quality, Safety, and Environmental Audits
  • Write, develop and update existing Risk Assessments (RA) and Safe Systems of Work (SSW)
  • Develop and monitor competency assessments for the bespoke equipment within the group.
  • Carry out in-house training
  • Responsibility for the health and safety team, system and process changes to maintain and improve output and quality
  • Control and administration of QHSE budgets
  • Implementation of new initiatives, including Continuous Improvement Schemes
  • Retention and control of documentation and records in line with all relevant requirements
  • Ensure QHSE bulletins are sent out when a safety critical incident has occurred

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
  • NEBOSH Construction certificate
  • 10+ years construction related experience in H&S pre-planning and project delivery
  • Affiliated with a relevant H&S body e.g. IOSH or similar
  • Knowledge and experience in contaminated land investigation, risk assessment and remediation (desirable).
  • Experience in managing conformance to accreditations such as CHAS, Safe Contractor, Altius
  • Experience in developing and maintaining an integrated management system in line with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001
  • Management and interaction with multi-disciplined staff to ensure engagement in health, safety, quality and environmental issues
  • Chairing quarterly company H&S committee meetings
  • Reporting to the board on H&S matters including KPI and BI information
  • Level 3 Award in Education and training
  • Experience in creating internal training courses / programmes and effective delivery in areas such as confined space awareness, asbestos awareness, dynamic risk assessments, COSHH etc.
  • Willingness to travel across UK and Ireland

Environmental Consultant (Inverness)

As a result of continued business growth, we are looking for an Environmental Consultant to join our Environmental Claims Division based in Inverness.

The successful applicant should ideally have a minimum 2 years’ relevant experience working in a contaminated land and/or Environmental Claims Management consultancy (or similar field) with active involvement in day-to-day project management and delivery of contaminated land/spill response projects. Relevant experience required should include project management, site investigation, risk assessment, remediation design and implementation and technical report writing and reviewing.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or natural science related discipline such as geology, engineering geology, environmental science or physical geography in conjunction with a minimum of four years relevant industry experience.
  • Preferred: MSc or MSci – Geology / Hydrogeology / Contaminated Land / Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science (not essential).
  • Phase I and Phase II investigation experience including supervision of ground investigation subcontractors.
  • Experience completing factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk based and intrusive assessment).
  • Understanding of current and emerging environmental legislation.
  • A full, clean, UK driving licence.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Motivated, friendly and confident interacting with clients / the public.
  • A willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland, to work away when required.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills including the ability to write factual and interpretive reports with supervision.

Remediation Operative (Newmarket/Tewkesbury)

As a result of continued business growth, we are looking for a Remediation Operative to join the Operations team to work on remediation projects.

The role would suit individuals with general building expertise, and the successful applicant should ideally have a minimum 1 year’s relevant experience working on construction projects.

Works include underpinning, all groundworks, internal works, brickwork, carpentry etc.

Digger and dumper experience would be ideal.

A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to learn is essential.

Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.

A valid UK driving licence is required.  All candidates will also require to pass a basic DBS check.

Salary circa £20,000 – £23,000 depending on experience.
