Project Manager – Fire and Flood Insurance Repair (Newmarket)

Reporting to the Managing Director, the role is with our busy insurance repairs department dealing with flood, subsidence, fire, impact and escape of water damage claims and covering throughout East Anglia. The candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to survey, assess and prepare schedules of repairs from initial site visit. Dealing with domestic and commercial properties the role will also involve overseeing of the management of the subsequent works. The right candidate will be given the opportunity to develop the role and to work with a number of insurance repair networks that our company is involved with.

As a Project Manager – Fire and Flood Insurance Repairs, your duties will include:

  • Working with our insurance repair department to visit with policy holders and professionals to schedule and agree works to various scopes of building repairs. Typically £15k – £100k
  • Collating costing and values using our systems and other portals
  • Preparing valuations on current contracts including variations and final accounts
  • Negotiating and procuring sub-contract packages
  • Production of accurate monitoring and progress reports
  • Monitoring effective management of appointed subcontractors workmanship and Health & Safety
  • Managing policy holder expectations
  • Working in conjunction with office based coordinators in managing documents and information flow.

Due to the nature of the role in visiting various locations the work place would be shared between office location and hybrid working from home on occasions will be considered.

The job

  • Costing scopes of work, reading and understanding structural engineers plans to write method statements and plan works to a timely manner
  • Effective management of all resources associated with the projects, delivering them within budget and previously allowed timeframes
  • Managing and monitoring in-house staff and sub-contractor performance, carrying out site visits, audits and snagging
  • Ensuring all projects are fully compliant with Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental legislation, producing and recording documentation
  • Liaising and developing relationships with clients and homeowners to ensure transparency in all stages of the project
  • Compiling interim and final accounts ready for invoicing within agreed SLAs
  • Identifying training needs for site operatives and delivering toolbox talks and updates on company procedures to employed staff and sub-contractors

The Person

  • Previous experience of working in a similar role managing projects within a construction and/or Fire and Flood remediation environment
  • Excellent people management skills with the ability to influence and coach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, customers and all levels of staff
  • Excellent Problem solving and analytical thinking
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage time to achieve high levels of productivity
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence

Senior Environmental Consultants or Environmental Consultants (three roles, one each based in Cardiff, Swindon and  Newmarket)

Depending on your current experience, you will join our team as either a Senior Environmental Consultant or Environmental Consultant.

The main focus of your role will be to provide start to finish project management for environmental claims projects, including all aspects of fieldwork data gathering, risk assessment and factual and interpretive reporting, under supervision if joining as an Environmental Consultant. Your duties (with support if not Senior) will include:

  • Project budgeting and invoicing, ensuring deadlines and targets are met
  • Gathering robust fieldwork data working in a safe manner, observing company’s health, safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Maintaining project communication on technical and commercial levels to a diverse range of clients, regulators, and homeowners
  • Writing technically sound and commercially focused proposals, scopes, and reports.

Our Requirements

  • Proven experience gained in a similar role, with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment experience (including supervising ground investigation subcontractors)
  • Experience gained completing factual and interpretative Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk based and intrusive)
  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or natural science related discipline (e.g., Geology, Environmental Science, Physical Geography)
  • A full UK driving licence, and willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland with occasional requirement to work away
  • Understanding of current and emerging environmental legislation
  • Excellent organisational, time-management, analytical and numerical skills with an eye for detail
  • Excellent communication and written skills, with the confidence to interact effectively with clients and  the public
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness both in project costings but also in risk management.

To be considered for the Senior Environmental Consultant role, you must also have more extensive experience of taking overall responsibility for a complete project with minimal supervision as well as completing Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessments (DQRA), and be willing to mentor and train junior colleagues.

Although not essential, an MSc or MSci level degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Contaminated Land, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science, would be advantageous.

  • Permanent contract, working Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5:30pm
  • Salary in the region of £25,000 to £35,000, with the starting level dependent on experience
  • Potential to earn an annual discretionary bonus

Principal Environmental Consultant (Newmarket)

Reporting to the Regional Manager, as a Principal Environmental Consultant you will be responsible for start to finish project management of complex environmental claims whilst providing technical guidance to support the region and overall business operations. Your duties will include:

  • Management, planning and delivery of projects to budget ensuring agreed targets and client specific SLAs met
  • Conducting fieldwork and collection of site data in accordance with company processes, standard operating procedures and industry best practice
  • Liaison with stakeholders including clients, contractors, site owners and Regulators
  • Supervision and mentoring of staff, including technical direction, management of cost appraisals, quality, health and safety and client management
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports including conceptual site models and quantitative risk assessments
  • Working knowledge of detailed quantitative risk assessment software with respect to risks to groundwater, including the Environment Agency’s remedial targets methodology etc.
  • Preparing and reviewing letters, scope of works, cost proposals and general correspondence prior to client delivery
  • Assisting Regional Manager to ensure staff productivity, chargeability and efficiency is maximised across operational area through pro-active management, mentoring and training
  • Managing commercial risks and implementing risk management strategies where necessary
  • Participating in business development activities and manage key clients.

Our Requirements

  • A degree in a relevant subject such as geology, geography, environmental science or similar geo-environmental subject
  • Minimum seven years’ experience gained in a role as an Environmental Consultant or similar
  • Possess knowledge and experience of remediation technologies for contaminated soil and groundwater
  • Be a member of an appropriate professional body, prepared to share technical expertise with external organisations when required
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire colleagues, with a positive, self-starting and lead-by-example approach
  • Superb problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and manage responsibilities
  • Ability to originate and guide others on the development and implementation of the most cost efficient and effective solution based on resources
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate a good degree of flexibility and possess strong organisational and time management skills.

Remediation Team Leaders (all locations)

Due to our continued expansion, we are pleased to be looking to recruit Remediation Team Leaders for our remediation projects throughout the UK.

The role would suit individuals with general building expertise.

Works include:

  • Underpinning, all groundworks, internal works, brickwork, carpentry etc.
  • Following structural engineers drawings/plans
  • Driving machinery and undertaking hand-dig excavation works
  • Carrying out works in line with health and safety regulations
  • Managing a site operative and ensuring their safety on site.

Additional training will be given to the right candidate.

Minimum requirement of five years’ experience in construction projects plus a valid UK driving licence is essential.

The ideal candidate will have a good general building knowledge, a willingness to learn new skills, have good organisation and problem-solving skills, and an understanding of project budgets and timelines.

Company van and tools provided.

The role will involve staying away and responding to emergency spill works out of normal working hours for which overtime is paid.

Job type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 per year.

 

Remediation Operatives (all locations)

The role would suit individuals with general building expertise.

Works include underpinning, all groundworks, internal works, brickwork, carpentry etc.
Digger and dumper experience would be ideal.
Additional training will be provided to the right candidate.

Experience in construction projects required plus a valid UK driving licence.

Salary: £20,000 – £23,000 per year.
